I am an international environmental lawyer and scholar working on biodiversity, agriculture and emerging technologies from a global justice perspective.
Currently with the Transdisciplinary Institute for Environmental and Social Studies in Greece working on the Horizon project DAISY (Digital, technological and social innovation mixes enabling transformation for
biodiversity and equity), I have conducted academic research in institutions across Europe, including as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow at the School of International Studies in the University of Trento and as ERC Research Fellow in the Universities of Strathclyde and Liège. I am a senior research fellow of the Earth System Governance network; and Member of the Ethics Advisory Board of the AEGIS project (Ancient Environmental Genomics Initiative for Sustainability, University of Copenhagen).
I have more than 25 years of experience as an observer of intergovernmental negotiations as a team leader for Earth Negotiations Bulletin of the International Institute for Sustainable Development. In this capacity, I have reported on, and analyzed developments in the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and other biodiversity-related conventions, and I have witnessed the negotiation and adoption of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, and the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit-sharing.
I have authored extensively on international environmental law and policy; have presented my work in multiple academic and policy events; and have concluded a series of technical consultancies for international organizations and national agencies, including the CBD Secretariat, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the CGIAR, and GIZ.
